Everything you need to know about Value Mr Market.
What exactly does Value Mr Market do?
It will collect information from the internet on UK stocks to help you make better investment decisions based on the principles of Value Investing.
How does it work?
You simply type in the stock ticker, the spreadsheet collects the necessary data from the web in under 60 seconds, performs various valuation calculations to give a modelled valuation, and then displays the data in an easy to read format. You then quickly assess if you want to change certain variables (such as future growth rates) and come to a conclusion on whether the stock is undervalued.
If the stock looks undervalued we strongly recommend you spend some more time understanding the business, either using all the data in the model or researching the industry. If the stock looks over value then you can move on to your next stock idea.
We use the extremely powerful SMF add-in (developed by Randy Harmelink and free from his yahoo user group) to pull data from the web into Excel.
Where does the data come from?
Most of the data is from Morningstar, which is used by many financial institutions, supplemented with data from Yahoo Finance and MSN Finance.
We have used sources similar to what you would use but done the hard work for you so you don’t have to trawl the internet.
What do I get?
1) The Value Mr Market stock analyser spreadsheet
2) SMF Excel add-in
3) Step by step instructions on installation after you have bought the product
4) Quick Start guide
Do I need a large storage facility?
No, the data is stored on you spreadsheet until you update it with another ticker. The spreadsheet will then overwrite all the current data with the new data. If you want to save a snapshot of a particular stock to help you with your research then simply save the document as a PDF.
Will it work on all computers?
Currently the spreadsheet does not work on a Apple Mac (including tablets or smartphones), unless you use a Windows emulator program. This is due to how the add-on works.
What version of Excel do I need?
It should work on all versions of Excel but to get the best out off the service you should have 2007 or above.
Do I need advanced Excel skills?
Not at all, you just need to be able to type a ticker. Value Mr Market has done all the hard work in the background developing formulas, macros, page layouts, charts, graphs etc so you don’t have to. Having said that, if you are comfortable with Excel you will be able to see all the valuation formula's and you can add your own worksheets as required.
Will it work on all stocks?
It will cover any company on the UK stock exchange (LSE).
Some of the valuation techniques will not work for Financial companies as their financial statements format isn't compatible with the valuation models. The spreadsheet will still deliver some basic data, but further analysis may be required if you invest in Financial companies.
How often will I get updates to the spreadsheets?
Value Mr Market is a very new service and we are already working on improvements to the current version. We will send you an updated version as new features are finished and tested, constantly enhancing your experience using this product. However we won’t bombard you with constant updates.
How much does it cost?
We have both monthly and annual subscriptions plans to choose from. See here for pricing.
You can upgrade your monthly subscription at any time to save money going forward.
Do I need a PayPal account to be able to subscribe to this service?
No, you can choose either to pay with an existing PayPal account or just choose to pay with your credit/debit card without setting an account up. These details will be securely held by PayPal to make your monthly or annual subscription fees.
